Got Caught downloading with emule

Postby defyfate on Thu Sep 17, 2009 7:12 pm

I just got busted and had my internet shut down about an hour ago. what bothers me is that I'm using peerguardian 2, with all up to date list. my isp said warner brothers got me for downloading I love you man, and something else, can't remember, anyway, I can't get any up to date list for peerguardian. usually I go to blocklist.org but it's been down. I never had any problems before, but if anyone knows how I can keep them from tracking me, other than using a proxy. I would love to hear it. I've tried to google list for p2p but not getting anything solid.

hope I've posted in right forum,

thanks

Just get someone else at home to open a net account (new one and maybe different ISP seeming they have folded to the whims of a MPAA associate)

I dont see why ISPs are allowed to even say that a person has been caught really, as its implying your are guilty even with evidence submitted to them by a organisation or such. Whatever happened to a mans innocence until proven otherwise (and no a submission of IP adress doesnt count as evidence until a court has said it does for that particular case).

Would be good that ISPs dont play law enforcer is what im saying, considering they arent law enforcement merely a buisness and some conglomirate comes along and breathes the word law suit and the ISP says yes sir ehre is the information and we will do this and that to the customer because of your so called evidence. :S

fact is, no matter how new your ip filter is, it's still behind new ip's procured for the purpose of spying. there are always a few that miss the list. don't know if it still applies, but it was an altered version of shareaza that used to be used. using only kad helps, and only obfuscated connections helps, as shareaza doesn't use obfuscation(not sure if still true).

this was your first notice? seems a little harsh. but better than a lawsuit. they're cancelling you rather than relesing your personal info by the sounds of it.

I have been shut down three times in three years by my ISP for downloading movies. I watch the movie, delete it, and then call my ISP to find out why my internet isn't working. They tell me it is because they have been notified by somebody that I downloaded a movie. I explain to them that it is no longer on my computer and they say okay and hook me back up. I don't know how many times I can get away with it though....... :)n

What you haven't, is that you haven't given us any info about where are you in the physical world, so we can get an idea of what laws are upon you, what precedents are there for you case, etc.

Anyway, best of luck and change your ISP.

Every single day I download each basic blocklist I am going to use and then use the Blocklist Manager to build the final lists I will use for eMule and for PeerGuardian.

Every single day my lists are created because liberty has a price...

You can use iblocklist site to access a huge list of basic blocklists. I have became a member because I think they are doing a very good job. All Bluetack lists are available, and the some. Many of the lists I use on PeerGuardian are downloaded directly by PeerGuardian from this site. Mainly general protection files. Like the anti-haxors files. Others are not because are only important to P2P activities. This general PC protection files are not used to integrate my personal anti-P2P blocklists, ie. files used in emule and BT. But that is my preference.

As you have noticed, the PG can use many lists are the same time. At download time, PG merges all list into the master list that is going to be used. This, at direct download time, happens on the fly. But if at that time you have a new personally created Blocklist file (previously defined and activated in PG) in PG Blocklist's folder (folder usually named "Lists", without quotes. But you might have put Blocklists in the PG main folder.) that file is merged with the others (in memory). To make use of this feature, I place all personally created files that are intended for PG into the proper folder before using PG's update feature.

Creating my own blocklists will take me about 10 minutes as I have configured the blacklist manager properly.

Enjoy :)

If I had to do something like that just to keep using P2P, I would just unsubscribe my ADSL and be done with it!

As a bonus, I would save money too, apart from stop wasting my time!

Even without internet you can still share files. You should never underestimate the value and privacy of offline file swapping with friends. In addition to speed, being more social and privacy you get an added bonus of making the anti-piracy industry frustrated, because they can't do shit about file sharing without an online trail.
