Added incomplete 2006 season. I do have some of the missing episodes, but only poor quality TVRips, and I'd like to keep the thread high quality, HDTV or DVDRip only.

PBS.org wrote:As he takes office on January 20, 2009, President Obama must deliver on an ambitious campaign pledge to fight global warming. He need look no farther than California, where Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is already leading the way with a dramatic and controversial program to slash carbon dioxide emissions and promote energy efficiency. In this program, NOVA explores the pros and cons of California's bold approach, which could be adopted nationwide during the Obama administration.

To examine the California initiative, NOVA conducts in-depth interviews with Governor Schwarzenegger, skeptics and supporters of the plan, and ordinary citizens and businesspeople whose lives will change significantly when the new regulations take effect.

This file is actually the Channel4 version of the show, it's 720x576 full screen and letterboxed video.

The real NOVA version with US narration should be this:

PBS.org wrote:Orange-and-black wings fill the sky as NOVA charts one of nature's most remarkable phenomena: the epic migration of monarch butterflies across North America. NOVA's filmmakers followed monarchs on the wing throughout their extraordinary odyssey. To capture a butterfly's point of view, camera operators used a helicopter, ultralight, and hot-air balloon for aerial views along the butterflies' transcontinental route.

NOVA: The Spy Factory (2009)

Postby StarTrekFan on Fri Feb 06, 2009 7:54 pm

Image

Original PBS Broadcast Date: February 3, 2009

PBS.org wrote:In this program, an eye-opening documentary on the National Security Agency (NSA) by best-selling author James Bamford and Emmy Award-winning producer Scott Willis, NOVA exposes the ultra-secret intelligence agency's role in the failure to stop the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent eavesdropping program that listens in without warrant on millions of American citizens.

"The Spy Factory" is based on Bamford's best-selling 2008 book, The Shadow Factory, praised as "important and disturbing" in the Washington Post by former senator Bob Kerrey, who was a member of the 9/11 Commission.

NOVA: Arctic Passage (2006) *New release*

Postby StarTrekFan on Wed Feb 11, 2009 8:15 pm

Image

Original PBS Broadcast Date: February 28, 2006

PBS.org wrote:The greatest geographical prize of its day was the search for the fabled Northwest Passage through the island maze of Arctic Canada. In 1845, Great Britain mounted an all-out assault with a lavishly equipped expedition that was never heard from again. Then in the early 1900s, a little-known Norwegian adventurer set forth in a secondhand fishing boat and succeeded beyond all expectation. This two-hour special answers the riddle of why one failed and the other made it.

Hour one provides new details on the Franklin expedition, whose fate was one of the great mysteries of the 19th century. Even today, the manner of the expedition's demise is an ongoing detective story, with clues and new interpretations still emerging over 150 years after the explorers inexplicably disappeared. Hour two tells how Roald Amundsen rewrote the book on Arctic exploration by stressing simplicity and adaptability, and in the process completed the first crossing of the Northwest Passage exactly 100 years ago.

NOVA: Rat Attack (2009) *NEW*

Postby StarTrekFan on Tue Mar 03, 2009 9:31 am

Image

Original PBS Broadcast Date: February 24, 2009

PBS.org wrote:Once every 48 years, forests of the bamboo known as Melocanna baccifera go into exuberant flower in parts of northeast India. And then, like clockwork, the event is invariably followed by a plague of black rats that spring from nowhere to spread destruction and famine in their wake. For the first time on film, NOVA and National Geographic capture this massive rat population explosion in the kind of vivid detail not possible in 1959, when the last invasion occurred.

Shot in the Indian state of Mizoram, where the massive onslaught occurred on schedule in 2008, this NOVA/National Geographic Televison special shows hordes of rats emerging from the forest right at harvest season, consuming entire crops and leaving subsistence farmers facing starvation. The chance to document and study this remarkable rat outbreak won't occur again for another half-century.

NOVA: Family That Walks on All Fours (2006)

Postby StarTrekFan on Sun Mar 15, 2009 8:55 pm

Image

Original PBS Broadcast Date: November 14, 2006

PBS.org wrote:An intense scientific debate has ignited around a quiet but extraordinary family living in rural Turkey—a family with five adults who walk on all fours. Since bipedalism has long been considered one of the defining characteristics of modern humans, such a discovery raises fascinating questions about genetics, society, and the evolutionary history of our species. Is this the anthropological find of the millennium, or simply a unique medical case? NOVA sets out to unravel the controversy and meet the individuals who have captured the imagination of scientists around the world.

While no one knows exactly when our ancestors stood up, there are clues. One of the most haunting is a trail of human-looking footsteps unearthed in Tanzania. Whoever made them walked on two feet more than three million years ago. Now, shaped over the millennia by evolution, the human body is exquisitely built for bipedal movement—from the proportion of its limbs and spine, to its breathtaking sense of balance. Walking, hands on the ground, is a painfully difficult task, so much so that the U.S. Marines use it as an endurance exercise. So why are adult members of a Turkish family walking in this way? This program takes viewers through a fascinating examination of the leading theories.
